2010 Leadership Camp 2010, Park City, Utah

posted: August 13, 2010

Familiar and new faces, the exchange of ideas and experiences, and a little fun thrown in, this year's ARMA Pacific Region Leadership Camp was another great time for all. Held in scenic Park City, Utah, the setting was a treat for those of us who had never been to this area of the country. The city center was quaint, and the surrounding scenery was stunning.

Thursday evening started off with a meet and greet, and the fun and challenging scavenger hunt. How many from the group would make it to the final rounds?

Two days of sessions started with "Where's the Beef?" a two-part presentation by Alan Hilberg, of "Where's the Beef" (Wendy's) and "We Bring Good Things to Life" (GE) corporate promotional campaigns. Alan gave us information and inspiration, for branding and marketing our chapters. We also got to learn some interesting things about human nature and having a deeper connection to a higher purpose.

Spread throughout the two days were presentations from the various chapters that attended. It's always informative and inspiring to hear others experiences with their past year. There were breakout sessions for leadership positions, practical information for the new and seasoned, and the exchange of ideas, hopes and challenges. The presentation from Trevor Mitchell from ARMA HQ gave us a good overview of Roberts Rules: what they are, and how to apply them to our chapter structure and business.

Friday night was the group dinner, and the final rounds of the scavenger hunt. By the end, only seven people made it to the final rounds! I thought it was impressive that three out of the seven were from the San Diego Chapter. Starting the finals was an egg carrying race, from the hotel to the restaurant. Four out of seven made it to next round. That was followed by the banker's box building contest, narrowing down even further to the final two, Brandon Reeder and myself. The final was the two of us building a bankers box, blindfolded, lots of excitement and suspense! Congratulations to Brandon who came in first; I took second - A fun and exciting time.

Always lots to see, hear, learn, experience. A round of applause, and a big thank you, to The Pacific Region Leadership for all their hard work putting this together, and to all the sponsors, who generously sponsored and supported this event. Always a great experience.

Looking forward to another successful leadership event next year.
